NYPD 1st Female Police Commissioner

The Policewomen’s Endowments Association congratulates Keechant Sewell as the First Female NYPD Police Commissioner.

Keechant Sewell made history, becoming the first female commissioner of theNew York Police Department. Sewell became the 45th commissioner of the country’s largest police force after having been chief of detectives in the Nassau County Police Department.

For the PEA, she embodies who we will strive to be as we look up to her superior leadership and values. She not only represents women’s accomplishments within law enforcement, she also brings a different perspective, skills and experience to the table. She will be seen as hope to young women who one day want to follow in their mothers footsteps within law enforcement, giving them the groundwork in knowing this position is possible. The PEA congratulates Police Commissioner Sewell  and supports and backs her while she tackles the  structural and cultural differences within this changing and challenging city.
